It’s not necessary to have a recipe for Grilled Pineapple Slices. Here I am simply describing the method we use. It’s as easy as boiling water. Just take care to watch the pineapple carefully so they don’t burn.
Grilled pineapple slices are bombs of tropical flavor that make an amazing addition to any dessert (or on their own) They take only minutes to make on the stovetop or the grill.
1 fresh pineapple*
80g sugar (does not need to be exact)
Spread the sugar in a shallow dish
Peel, core and slice the pineapple into rounds, spears, chunks or whatever shape you desire. Dip both sides of each slice of pineapple into the sugar. The less ripe the pineapple, the heavier the coat of sugar (for a very ripe pineapple a very light sprinkle of sugar is all that’s needed)
Arrange the pineapple in a single layer in a large heavy pan and place over medium-high heat (or on a grill*) Cook about 5-8 minutes until caramelized then flip and carmelize on the other side.
When both sides are golden take off the heat and serve.
The riper the pineapple the better. But a little under-ripe is OK as long as the pineapple has some taste! If it’s completely tasteless grilling it isn’t going to help much.
For an outdoor grill we don’t recommend placing the pineapple directly on the grill, they tend to stick.
